About the role

An excellent opportunity is currently available for an experienced Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Advisor to join the OHS team at Hudson Institute of Medical Research, Australia’s leading Medical Research Institute.

The OHS Advisor will be responsible for providing specialist OHS advice and support to ensure that OHS compliance requirements and quality assurance standards are met within the area. The OHS Advisor acts as a first contact for all OHS matters, injury management, and emergency management and facilitates and maintains the OHS communications within the Hudson Institute. The OHS Advisor will liaise and maintain working relationships with senior management, research and professional staff and students to ensure consistent safe and compliant work practices are met (where applicable).

The OHS Advisor will play a pivotal role in shaping and enhancing OHS practices and systems within the organization. This role offers the opportunity for a seasoned professional to collaborate with stakeholders across the Institute, driving continuous improvement and ensuring the implementation of best practices in occupational health and safety.

The OHS Advisor is part of the Health and Safety team at the Hudson Institute and will report to the Health and Safety Manager.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education/ Qualifications

  • Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety and/or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.

Knowledge and skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, laboratory regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Proven ability to propose practical solutions to OHS issues considering legislation, standards and guidance materials.
  • Excellent written and communication skills with the ability to maintain close attention to detail.
  • Proven capacity to consult effectively and ability to build rapport with a broad range of people.
  • Proven organisational skills with the ability to balance competing demands, prioritise effectively and work to deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently, and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a broad range of people and maintain strong, effective working relationships.
  • Highly developed computer literacy, particularly using the Microsoft Office suite of applications, database/records management systems and web technology, including the ability to learn and adopt new modes of communication and software packages as required.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a university, hospital or medical research environment. Experience working within a laboratory environment.
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, or equivalent experience in the development and delivery of training programs in a workplace environment.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

This position is available in a Full time or Part time (0.8 – 1.0 FTE) capacity. Salary is based on Scientific Support Group Tap 7. As a not-for-profit organization, employees have access to generous salary packaging options.
